Daphne, a nine year-old collie/huntaway cross is a retired farm dog recently rescued by the Humane Society.
She’s a sweet dog with plenty of energy and very good manners. One look from her soulful eyes is enough to melt your heart.
Daphne is well behaved, keeps off furniture and beds and prefers a crate or dog bed. She loves a bit of affection from her people but doesn’t need 24/7 companionship – she’s happy with her own company too. She gets on well with other dogs in the home and in her pack, but won’t put up with bullying or over familiarity until she gets to know them.
For her age she’s very active; she can be a little stiff at the end of the day but nothing out of the ordinary for her energy and previous occupation.
In a perfect world Daphne would live with people on a life-style block where she could run and pootle around to her heart’s content. Her idea of exercise is definitely more free-running than walking on-lead around the block although she’s happy with a bit of both.
Her forever owner might need to put in a bit of work with on-leash (she’s a bit pully though not terrible) and excitement barking; it’s what she was trained to do and she needs a bit of reminding that other dogs don’t need to be shouted at. She’s very smart and catches on quickly.
If you have a big back yard, respect for a little dog who has put in the hard yards over the years, and can provide a loving home for a lovely girl she will repay you in spades.
Daphne has been vet-checked, spayed, vaccinated microchipped and is currently registered so we ask a minimum DONATION of $200 towards these costs.
Her new owner must have a securely fenced property, which a volunteer from the Society will check prior to her being released to her new home.
You will also need to meet her at our foster home in Pt Chevalier as we WILL NOT send dogs anywhere and must meet all prospective owners.
Our aim is to adopt each dog to a compatible owner. The Humane Society reserves the right to decline any dog adoption application at its discretion.
